Bearfields Story

From the humble beginnings of a corner shop in London’s East End to the modern, specialised factories required for today’s exacting standards of food production, the Bearfields family involvement with the food industry spans five generations, over one hundred years.

The transition from retailing to manufacturing was long and often arduous with Len, Fred and Terry Bearfield responsible for successfully taking the company through the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Many innovations such as the slicing and selling of pre-packed bacon can be attributed to Bearfields. In those days, though, 5lb packs of bacon wrapped in greaseproof paper for distribution was quite a revelation. How times have changed!

The 70s saw a new generation of Bearfields join the business with Paul, Stephen and Alan first introduced on the production floor. The experience gained there stood them in very good stead for the years ahead.

The 80s saw substantial changes in the style of production with the move from traditional sides of bacon into the curing of CAC gammons. The family has always striven to develop strong working relationships with their fresh pork suppliers, a strategy that has helped the business grow and maintain the quality standards that has now become synonymous with the "Bearfields" name.

The CAC gammon concept was developed further, leading to the introduction of a range of complementary products including Gammon Steaks, Gammon Joints and a range of quality Cooked Hams.

Which brings us up to date, but this isn’t the end of the Bearfields family story. In fact, it’s just another beginning…
